by MeyMey (January 31, 2007) Well its fashion week boys and girls, and this column goes out to you all. If you’re familiar with my column, you know that I never expect too much from you, and all I ask is that you put a conscious effort in the way you look and dress. That does not by any stretch mean; you should become high maintenance and start waxing your chest (men), or start wearing heels to the grocery store (women). This week I’m going to tell you about what I’ve seen on the runways, and how you can apply that to your wardrobe in a reasonable and functional way. Over the last few seasons, some of Canada’s most notable homegrown talent such as the well known Arthur Mendonca, Paul Hardy, and David Dixon have really raised the bar for Toronto Fashion week. Although this week we saw lots of new talent hit the runway, I want to emphasize my growing appreciation for the brilliant Arthur Mendonca. Women open your mind to these fresh designs. Definitely one of the finest contributions to Toronto fashion week, we saw models strut the runway in white cotton peasant dresses, sweet bubble-hemmed minis and linen tunics. Very sweet, yet ferocious, super in-the-now, yet paralleling mod. Skinny belts, tightened waist lines, pleated safari shorts; it was a true ode to all things feminine. Thank you, Mr. Mendonca. Gentlemen, this spring I don’t care what’s going on in your wardrobe, just make sure your outerwear is on point! Well, I take it back, you know that it’s impossible for me not to care, so I will only emphasize the importance of keeping it hot in the cool days of spring. Rudsak, a true connoisseur to both men and ladies outerwear, has done it again! And what a show it was. Men’s trenches, leather details on cotton blends, short, long, medium length jackets and tailored to perfection. The male models definitely helped pull off those great looks ;). Boys, it’s really quite simple. Wear what suits you. Your style, your body, your personality, it’s all important when making an important decision such as outerwear. I’ve told you before and I’ll tell you again, it doesn’t matter if you’re wearing a decent pair of jeans, nice shirt, clean belt- if your jacket is from Danier circa ’99, it aint happenin. This is a crucial part of your outfit. A great tailored jacket is always a great thing to have. Mmk little girls and boys, I hope you enjoyed my picks for you from Toronto Fashion Week Spring/Summer ’07. Next week I will be covering the SD+R show so click MeyMey’s fashion 411………your stylist truly, Meytal. About the Author
